Conscious Connected Breathwork opens the body, mind and spirit to the possibility of profound healing, insight and the restoration of balance between the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous systems.
When we experience trauma, one of the key features is the sudden instinctive holding of the breath. What happens as a result is that this trauma or feeling gets locked into the body, creating a somatic tension and holding that can be easily re-triggered when the ego mind perceives a smilier 'threat'. Oftentimes this 'threat' is far removed from the original source of our disturbance, however the 'feeling' state is similar and so the original defence response is re-activated.
Using the breath, we rapidly oxygenate the body and create movement and change in the autonomic nervous system. We then have the opportunity to bring awareness to the source feeling and release any locked in repeating patterns.
Breathwork is not only used for trauma release however, and can be a really useful tool for personal insight, awareness and growth. We may find inspirations revealed to us, truths opening up to us, and a real sense of inner peace, harmony and balance.
